    Czech Surrealist painter, poet, editor, photographer, and graphic artist.
    Wrote studies of both Arthur Rimbaud and Marquis de Sade.
 1920 Started photography. 
    Beecame a member of Devetsil a collective of poets and artists that included 
    Jaroslav Seifert ->, Karel Teige, Frantisek Halas ->, Toyen,and Vítezslav Nezval -.

 1923 Worked closely with Toyen until his death. 

 1928 - 1929 Director of the surrealist group's drama wing, the Liberated Theater.

 1931 Founded and edited the Erotik Review and Edition 69 ->, with illustrations by Toyen.

 1935 Andre Breton, Louis Aragon and Paul Eluard travel to Prague to meet him.
    First Czechoslovak surrealist exhibition at the Manes Gallery in Prague.

 1938 Jan. Exhibits in Exposition Internationale du Surrealisme? at the 
    Galerie Beaux-Arts, Paris; organizers Andre Breton, Marcel Duchamp.

 1940 Cover Plates for   Nur die Turmfalken brunzen ruhig auf die 10 Gebote -> by Jindrich Heisler, 
    with illustrations by Toyen.

 1941 Clandestinely published his photographs in On the Needles of These Days -> a 
    collaboration with Jindrich Heisler and Karel Teige which was dedicated to Toyen.

 1942 d. March 21st in Prague
