    German born, American Photographer.

 1918 He took part in the Soviet-inspired Bavarian coup d’état.

 1932 Opened his first photographic studio.

 1933 Fled to Paris and opened new Studio.
    Met Andre Breton, possibly introduced by Max Ernst.
    Exhibited alongside  Man Ray, Jacques-Andre Boiffard,Brassai, Eli Lotar, 
    Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Roger Parry ->; and was one of the first photographers to work in colour.

 1934 Galerie de La Pléiade gave Breitenbach his first one-person exhibition.

 1937 Portrait -> of James Joyce.

 1938 January; exhibits in Exposition Internationale du Surrealisme at the Galerie Beaux-Arts, Paris; 
    organizers Andre Breton, Marcel Duchamp.

 1939 Collaborated with Bertold Brecht ->.
