1892 b. October 9th. Stettin, Pomerania as Alfred Emanuel Ferdinand Grunwald. Self taught German, painter, poet and draughtsman, collagist, writer and publisher. Together with Max Ernst, founded the Cologne Dada group. He also used the pseudonym Zentrodada (Ger) ->. He studied jurisprudence at Oxford and Bonn. Influenced by Giorgio de Chirico and Francis Picabia. 1919 Editor of the periodical The Fan (Der Ventilator) which Ernst and Jean Arp started. He collaborated on many other Dadaist publications such as Bulletin D and Dada W/3. Baargeld also colloborated with Max Ernst on some of the collages used in Ernst's Fatagaga series. 1920 Formed the Dada group in Cologne with Jean Arp, Max Ernst and Angelika Hoerle -> and Heinrich Hoerle -> April; Publication in Cologne, of the Dada review Die Schammade created by himself and Max Ernst. 1921 Gave up painting. Signed the Dada Manifesto of January 12th. 1922 Portrayed by Ernst in At The Rendezvous of Friends. 1927 d. August 16th. or 17th. in an avalanche while climbing Aiguille de Bionnassay in the French Alps. See work and bio ->. See Timeline
