French writer With her sister, Lilya Brik received excellent education and were able to speak fluent German and French and play the piano. Elsa graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture.
1915 befriended an aspiring futurist poet and graphic artist Vladimir Mayakovsky. When she invited him home, the poet fell madly in love with her older sister Lilya, who was married to Osip Brik ->. 1918 m. the French cavalry officer Andre Triolet and emigrated to France. For years in her letters to Lilya, Elsa admitted to being heartbroken. She was the first to translate Mayakovsky's poetry (as well as volumes of other Russian-language poetry) to French. Later she divorced Triolet. 1920's, Elsa described her visit to Tahiti in her letters to Victor Shklovsky who subsequently showed them to Maxim Gorky -> who suggested she should consider a literary career. 1925 Book In Tahiti, (in Russian), was based on these letters. 1928 Meets Louis Aragon. They married and stayed together for 42 years. She influenced Aragon to join the French Communist Party. Katia Thirion worked with her making jewelery. 1934 Louis Aragon dedicates Hourra l'Oural to her. 1936 Designed for Elsa Schiaparelli. 1940 - 1945 Triolet and Aragon participated in the French anti-fascist resistance movement. 1944 The first woman to be awarded the Prix Goncourt prize in French literature. 1965 Played herself in Elsa the Rose ->. 1970 d.
