1909 Dec 24th. b. in Copenhagen; Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen. Son of the art historian and museum director Carl V. Petersen. Danish Painter and Writer. 1929 Studies at the Kunstakademi in Oslo. 1930 - 1931 he studied with Paul Klee, Vasily Kandinsky and Oskar Schlemmer at the Bauhaus in Dessau. 1933 Founder-member of the Danish artists' group Linien -> and he edited the group's journal of the same name. Together with Elsa Thoresen, Ejler Bille, Richard Mortensen and Rita Kernn-Larsen Published Symboler in abstract artt in Copenhagen. 1934 Organized first Linien exhibition. 1935 Den gamle bro styrter i havet
1936 Involved in meetings to plan the London International Surrealist Exhibition. 1937 Moved to Paris, exhibited in Surrealist exhibition. 1943 Traveled illegally to Sweden. 1945 Horrors of War ->. 1946 Visited New York. 1949 Founded the Modern Art School in Stockholm. 1953 m.
